Getting accustomed to working in mixed reality

As you start working in immersive and blended reality, allow yourself time to adjust both to the headset and to your favourite apps. Here are some tips that we think you might find useful.

Be aware of your surroundings

Before putting on your headset, clear a space around you and make sure that there's nothing overhead, such as a light fixture. Your Meta Quest should only be used indoors to ensure proper tracking and safety.

You'll know that your space is large enough if you can extend your arms while holding the controllers without coming into contact with objects.

If it's your first time in MR, there's no need to rush into anything. Settle into the experience and, if possible, try and have active air circulation in your physical space to help you stay cool and focused.

Headset preparation

Charging your device
Fully charge the headset and controller batteries prior to first using your Meta Quest. Remember to plug the headset back in after use to ensure that it's ready for your next session.

Adjust headset and controller fit
Your Meta Quest device should be balanced and centred on your face. Make the adjustments needed to find the best possible fit. Adjust the distance between lenses until you see a single, clear image. To secure the controllers, place your hands through and tighten the wrist straps.

Create good habits in mixed reality

Appropriate use periods and breaks
At first, you might want to consider using your Meta Quest for relatively short bursts of activity, such as a single meeting, until you've started to feel more comfortable.

Even when you're ready to work for longer, we recommend that you take a break at least every 30-45 minutes to avoid discomfort. Getting into this habit from the start will lead to a better experience overall.

Listen to your body
In rare cases, MR experiences may cause motion sickness while adjusting to the environment. If you experience discomfort, such as nausea, dizziness, disorientation or headaches, remove your headset and focus on your breathing. If you have motion-related illnesses, are pregnant or have any health-related electronic devices, make sure that you review all safety warnings.

When you purchase your devices through sales, they are pre-enrolled into your Meta Horizon managed services account, making them work-ready faster.

If you already own devices, sign up for Meta Horizon managed services with your managed Meta account.
After you've signed up, perform a factory reset and follow the in-device prompts to connect the headset to your organisation.

Follow the steps your sales representative provides to sign up for Meta Horizon managed services.

If you already own devices, sign up for Meta Horizon managed services using your work email address.

To create your account, you will need to:

enter your and your organisation's details
fill in billing information
agree to Meta for Work Terms of Service
