Bringing your message into the metaverse: FEMA and Ad Council elevate the Ready campaign into XR
Building and growing online communities enables you to reach more people with your message and your mission. Meta's technologies are a great place to do that. As technology evolves, you may be wondering, "How can I bring my organisation's message to the Metaverse?"
In partnership with the Ad Council and Meta, FEMA is bringing their Fire Safety Awareness message beyond Facebook and Instagram with an XR (Extended Reality) experience. Joining an existing suite of digital tools, The Escape Plan is a VR (Virtuality Reality) experience that allows individuals to learn to safely escape a fire in their home in an immersive environment.
The Ad Council and FEMA are bringing the Ready campaign to the next generation of connection via XR. The Escape Plan is available on desktop and mobile as well as being built for a virtual reality experience in VR headset, including the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. The Escape Plan takes the Ready campaign's advocacy efforts on Meta's family of apps from a 2D connection to an impactful memory created in 360 immersive technology.
In The Escape Plan, users must work through various obstacles to make a timely escape from a fire, along the way learning the safer choices to make. At the end of the experience, users will find the resources to create their own fire escape plan and visit Ready.gov to further prepare themselves and their families for potential home fires and other hazards.
When it comes to Fire Safety, it's hard to imagine what it would be like to escape a fire in your home. Making a plan is important, and having first-hand experience of a fire underscores the value of being ready in the face of a fire.
"You don’t have much time to act in the event of a fire," said Michelle Hillman, Ad Council Chief Campaign Development Officer. "Being able to practise a fire safety and evacuation plan before the emergency arises will reduce the chance of panic and ultimately save lives."

Immersive storytelling and experiences in the metaverse can help organisations build empathy and raise awareness for their causes.
FEMA and the Ad Council are tapping into their existing communities online to highlight and share the free fire safety experience by using organic posts and Stories on Facebook and Instagram as well as integrating a Spark AR (augmented reality) effect on Instagram that gives users a lighterweight preview into the experience.
